Aims and Objectives  (Agreed February 25th 2003, 5th Official Meeting, Iguassu Falls, Brazil)

Aims
 
To further the development of the field of ergophthalmology, by way of  the facilitation of multidisciplinary research and dissemination of information on the effects of work on vision, the control of occupational visual disorders and the optimisation of visual performance.
 
Objectives
 
1.      To review relevent scientific literature and develop consensus documentation;
 
2.      To facilitate collaborative multidisciplinary research; circulate publications (in press or published) and inform other members of relevant research meetings or conferences.
 
3.      To provide a forum for information exchange among scientists and health professionals involved in work and vision.

 

Modus Operandi (subject to ICOH rules)
 
Membership
A mix of disciplines relevant to the field will be maintained and, so far as is possible, members will be spread geographically.
The Committee will have a Chair and a Secretary for a renewable term of three years. Nominations for these positions will be called for not later than two months prior to completion of the term, or when a vacancy arises.
Ordinary members of the Scientific Committee will also have a term of three years, which will automatically be renewed, subject to completion of a renewal form. Prospective members may apply to join  the Committee by writing to the Secretary or Chair, outlining their interest and current involvement in the field and submitting a detailed curriculum vitae for consideration.
From time to time, external experts may be invited to join the Committee in an advisory capacity.
 
Subcommittees
Subcommittees may be established in key areas, on an ad hoc basis. Members of the Committee will be expected to participate in a subcommittee relevant to their area of expertise.
 
Communications
The Commitee will use electronic mail as its principal means of correspondence. Physical meetings will be scheduled to coincide with ICOH congresses and mid term (or other) meetings.
Existing members will be required to advise the Secretary of any change in contact details.
